Cryptics Dinner Guest Speaker

01 Aug 2022

Dear ##firstname##

I hope that you have enjoyed the cricket this summer and that you will join us at the Annual Dinner on Saturday 1st October.

Our guest speaker will be Robert Winder, journalist, author and cricketer for the Gaieties CC.  Formerly literary editor of The Independent, Robert has written novels and non-fiction books including two about cricket.  He is the Chair of Judges of the Cricket Society/MCC Cricket Book of the Year.  We are delighted Robert is coming and look forward enormously to hearing from him and he has agreed to answer questions afterwards!

We are delighted to extend the invitation to wives, partners and other family members and friends.  We have relaxed the dress code this year but would request that gentlemen still wear jacket and tie, ideally Cryptics tie.

When:  Saturday 1st October 2022.  Bar Opens 6pm.  AGM 615pm.  Drinks 7 for 745pm.

Where: Officers’ Mess at the Oxford University Officer Training Corps.*

Cost:    £48 (full-time students £24.00).  Includes 4- course meal and wines.

Payment can be made by:

  • Bank transfer (A/C name: Cryptics Cricket Club, Account Number: 00077163 Sort code: 30-97-86) with your name as the reference.
  • Cheque ( Payable to “Cryptics CC” and posted to John Hamilton at High Lawn, Scotland Lane, Haslemere, Surrey GU27 3AB)

For further information or to book your place, provide guest or dietary information or confirm payment, please contact John Hamilton here or on 07732 011181 BY THE 11th SEPTEMBER 2022.

The Club still has another 10 matches - this week's tours in the north and south and matches in Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and London.

The big question is will Sam Elstone, in just his second season, surpass the six centuries which his father scored for the Cryptics (over a few more seasons!).

And when the stumps are finally drawn after our last match on 4th September it will be just four weeks to the Annual Dinner.

Kind regards

Nick Priestnall, President, Cryptics Cricket Club
