Club President – AGM, 10th March 2018

Mark Williams has informed the Committee that he wishes to resign as President of the Cryptics Cricket Club at the forthcoming AGM.  This is for personal reasons associated with work commitments, including a return to a full teaching timetable at Eton College.

The Committee is very grateful for the 3 years of the 5 year term that Mark has served as President.  In recognition of his contribution to the Club, both as a member and as President, the Committee proposes that Mark be elected as a Vice-President at the AGM.

Mark intends to continue his active role in supporting the Club in many ways, particularly through coordinating match umpires and introducing new players of the calibre required to ensure the Club prospers.

After due deliberation and appropriate consultation, the Committee proposes that Nick Priestnall be elected President of the Club at the AGM.

Nick was elected as a member in 1978, and has served on the Committee in total for over 25 years. He was London Match Secretary (early 1980s), Hon. Match Secretary (1999-2013), and integral to the arrangements for the Centenary celebrations – contributing to the Dinner, the book, and creating the Club Draw (which he continues to today, raising valuable funds for Club activities and tours). He has also been integral in bringing the Club into the 21st Century by developing its Internet presence. Nick is well-known throughout the Club as a regular player in many fixtures, a Match Manager, and as organiser for a number of overseas tours.

The Committee believes that Nick’s knowledge of and commitment to the Club, together with his business and current experiences as Director of Development for the Mill Hill School Foundation puts him in a strong position to continue where Mark left off, in tackling some of our immediate priorities at this critical period of time for the Club.  All wandering clubs are facing the challenges of attracting new members, with many players having increased league/competition cricket and other commitments.

The Annual General Meeting is taking place on Saturday 10th March commencing at 6.30pm, and is being held in the Officers’ Mess of the Oxford University Officer Training Corps. We hope that members will attend, to show their appreciation to Mark Williams and to elect Nick Priestnall into the office of President.

Following the AGM is the Annual Dinner at 7.45pm – a five course meal with wine. The Club looks forward to welcoming Nick Stewart, our Guest Speaker, and Dougie Dalrymple, to respond on behalf of the Club. It is still possible to reserve a place – if you have not done so already, please register your attendance (partners/guests very welcome as well) with Edward Montague ASAP (07887 775358 or edwardmontague@btinternet.com).
