Cryptics Cricket Club News story

Cryptics CC - Approachng the half way point!

14 Jul 2025

Dear Cryptic,

I look at the Fixture List and I see that we are already eleven games into the season.  That means that there are fourteen to go… all in the next 9 weeks!  This also includes the two tours – Northern and Southern.

Typically referred to as - “the business end of the season” - by sports team managers, this is time of the summer when people start to take their well-earned summer holidays.

Can I please implore that all playing members, wherever possible, make every effort to support the Club in these games.  Sign up now!  Follow this link, which will take you to the online Fixtures List: https://crypticscricket.club/fixtures/default.aspx  (Note – you may need to sign in to get the full contact details of the Match Manager)

There are some excellent fixtures here. From Seaham Harbour CC (north) to Hurstpierpoint College (south), Honourable Artillery Company (east) to Highclere Castle (west), there are games arranged in some lovely locations.

If you do not know the Match Manager or anyone else playing – do not let that deter you!  You will make new acquaintances and enjoy the camaraderie of the Cryptics.  Better still, encourage another to come along with you, when you will be guaranteed to know at least one person, and together make up nearly 20% of the team.

I have one further small request.  There are various duties that the role of Match Manager entails. Primarily this involves the forming of a competitive team for the fixture.  Please, please, please… if you are contacted by the Match Manager, can you kindly acknowledge their communication with a timely, “Yes” (ideally!), “No”, or a “Maybe” response.  It is common courtesy, and it makes their lives a little less complicated.

Thank you for your continued support.  I hope to see number of you at some stage. Let’s get a few more wins under our belts and enjoy the remainder of the season!

P.S. Don’t forget also the End of Season Dinner (with AGM) – Saturday 4th October in Oxford (Oxford University OTC, Falklands House, Oxpens Road).  More details arriving soon and also on the Fixtures List.

All the very best,

Ed Montague
