Barnes Cricket Club v Cryptics Cricket Club on Sun 31 Jul 2016 at 1.30 pm
Cryptics Cricket Club Won Cryptics by 36 runs

Match report The Cryptics wo this game largely thanks to a half century and 5 wickets from stalwart Joe Ireland. He was impressive with the bat, making a steady start before hitting boundaries, and made an immediate impact when brought on at the start of the last 20 overs.
Losing the toss, the Cryptics were put into bat on a wicket that looked like it might take spin in the first innings yet alone the second. Doole and Smith made a positive start (partnership of 70 runs), and boundaries came easily on the fast outfield. Bax, Crawford and Kettle all made sound contributions on their debuts for the Club. A bit of a middle order wobble brought Ireland to the crease. Calm was restored before started to impose himself at the crease. He was joined by Whipple in the closing stages and together they put on 68 for the 8th wicket, whereupon the innings was declared, in the 44th over. Chambers was the pick of the Barnes bowling with 3-16 from 8 overs.
A hearty tea only helped to ready the appetite for wickets.
Taking the new ball was Whipple and Tibble, with the latter taking the first wicket. Two overs later came the second from an excellent piece of fielding by Kettle to bring a run out. The 3rd wicket partnership added 40 odd runs, before Kettle took the first of his three wickets, an LBW to remove the opener (Tegner, 34) who was looking comfortable at the crease. This was folled up a couple of overs later with a sharp stumping by Bax. His third wicket was a regulation catch taken by Doole, halting a batsman who had made a positive start. Into the last hour and with 18 overs to go, Barnes were 5 down requiring 121 to win. Enter Ireland. A wicket came with his first ball, and another in his second. The pressure was building. A couple of loose overs at the end of Kettle's spell, and two overs of occasional leg spin from Crawford, kept the Barnes lower order interested. Ireland meanwhile was taking regular wickets at the other end, and when the last wicket fell there was 5 overs left, and Barnes short by 36 runs.
A good afternoon's cricket, expertly officiated by the President (Mark Williams), and a much needed win for the Club's seasonal performance.
