Season Summary 2014
The Cryptics were not as blessed with the weather in 2014 as they were in 2013. Of the 36 fixtures on the Cryptics card only 25 were played. Six were cancelled due to the weather and 5 were cancelled as a result of mix ups/failure to raise a side. Of the 25 games played 8 were won, 8 were drawn and 9 were lost which one could describe as solid, if not spectacular, mid-table form.
There was no early spring Mediterranean tour this year. However much good cricket was played on the Southern, West Midlands and Northern Tours. The highlight of the Southern must have been Matt Baggs’ splendid 153 against Old Amplefordians whilst the Cryptics were unbeaten in the West Midlands Tour, winning 3 matches. The Northern Tour was a victim of the weather but did include a good win against the Durham Pilgrims.
The other main highlight of the season was another fine win over the MCC at Radley College this time by 6 wickets.
Whilst for the most part match managers did a sterling job in raising sides during the 2014 season, it was on occasion a struggle and so members are encouraged to apply as early as possible to play in as many fixtures as they can for 2015.
