Cryptics Cricket Club Won Cryptics won by 56 runs

Match report A fine day down at Southborough CC saw the Cryptics take on Old Amplefordians on what can only be described as a tiny pitch, runs were there to be had. The toss was won and Cryptics chose to go into bat with Tarun & Carl opening up. Tarun looked in good form with a great shot for 4 but an unusual shot played saw him caught for 6. It wasn't long after that the Ampleford opener trapped Carl in front of the stumps. A rocky start, but in came Tyler and Dom who before the game were described to the captain as 'gun bats'. Tyler got off to a fast start with 2 sixes flicked off his legs and Dom straight into his rhythm hitting 4's all over the shop, gun they were. Frustration started to build for the Ampleford bowlers as both bats looked in fantastic nick hitting boundaries for fun. Dom raced to his 100 with a flurry of sixes and Tyler not far behind comfortably getting to his 50. Before we knew it Dom was raising his bat again for a 3rd time for the 150 just as Tyler was creeping close to his 100. Unfortunately Tyler fell for 89 but a top innings showing great timing in everything he did. Eoin stepped up at no.5, looking good but fell to a brilliant catch from a shot that looked destined for the boundary. Daniel in next with an array of shots and supported Dom getting to his 200. Dom looking knackered then fell to a catch in the deep, but a ridiculous innings which included 17 6's and 19 4's. Hats off to the chap who scored his highest ever total, 206, off 110 balls. Joe in next who batted really sensibly with continuous rotation of the strike. Both Dan & Joe looking strong but fell to catches scoring 22 and 18 respectively. With only a couple of overs left Tom & Alan finished the innings off, Tom scooping the last ball for a boundary. A high target set of 383.

Knowing the runs were in the bag there was an awe of confidence as Cryptics took to the field. Mark opened up with some absolute heat while Ryan was at the other end producing huge in duckers. It wasn't long until that monster swing paid off and Ryan had the first wicket, starting outside off to come back and take middle stump. A few drops in covers but eventually the other opener was seen off, a very well deserved wicket for Mark. Amplefords 3 & 4 did some damage against our 1st change bowlers with 56 and 91 respectively but Joe made sure they went no further. 3rd change Dan and Tyler picked up a couple of extra wickets as the day went on but it did get close at one point, with Amplefords mathematically still able to achieve a win with 12 sixes needed off the last 2 overs. Even though their no.8 gave it his all with a quickly made 67, it wasn't to be and the first win of the tour for Crytpics. Mentions to Mark for figures of 1 for 21 of his 8 overs.
