Match report A great game was enjoyed at Amersham CC's charming home of Shardeloes in the foot hills of the Chilterns. There was an outstanding debut for Ben Tibble, who bowled wonderfully well in harness with William Wilkins. However victory escaped The Cryptics due mainly to a hundred from Callum Tilbury and a perky half century from Sir Lankan Liyapapathrama.

The game began with a real bang as Tibble and Wilkins shared six wickets in the first hour to leave Amersham reeling. However Tilbury and Liyapapathrama very watchfully rebuilt the innings to post a decent total. Tibble bowled quickly and full and richly deserved his bag of six whilst Wilkins bowled a touch shorter and collected three wickets: it was a great shame when he hobbled leaving his thirst for wickets not entirely satiated.

The Cryptics reply started steadily enough but wickets seemed to find a way of falling against bowling that was well within our compass of ability. Baggs, Simons and Tibble all played attractive cameos, Tibble's six that crashed through the pavilion doors - threatening the left over lunch time chilli - was particularly memorable. It was General Secretary Montague who played with most-substance as he pulled, drove and boshed his way to a half century, which was, I must add, celebrated with a modicum of excitement.

All in all a super game but an unlikely result given what had happened in the first hour. Well played Amersham and better luck next time Cryptics.
