Cryptics beat Ditchling by 138 runs

17 Aug 2023

Cryptics won the toss and elected to bat. Following a lively opening spell by C.Nolan the Cryptics lost quick wickets and were 8 for 2. With some lovely shots by both Parker and M.Nolan the Cryptics steadied the ship through the first session. However the game turned again when both Nolan and Parker fell before lunch leaving the Cryptics 145-5 at lunch at the game and the game was in the balance. At lunch a couple of toasts from the skippers to commemorate a special day for the Nolan's and Patrick Nolan's memory. Following a lovely lunch the Cryptics again found themselves in trouble with Rusling and Martin falling quickly leaving the Tics 7 down. A lovely partnership followed between Wood and Jake Wilson, Jake was destructive and was quickly taking the game out of Ditchling's reach targeting the short boundary. Cryptics ended the innings on a very competitive 278 the innings highlights were a classy 69 from Parker to start with and an explosive 87* from Jake Wilson to wrap up the innings.

Ditchling's reply never got going and their young side showed little application to in chasing the large target. Wickets fell consistently with the Cryptics bowling aggressive lines and save for a few nice aggressive shots Ditchling were soon 70 for 7. A nice little cameo from H.Middleton who had scored 100* for the Cryptics the week before and a nice knock from Harvey Nolan (Patrick's son) there was little bright points for Ditchling, they were soon dismissed for 140.

President Nick Priestnall presented the Cryptics new tankard which will be awarded to the Man of the Match each year in the fixture in honour of Patch. This year the Tankard went to Jamie Parker for his fluent 69 runs and 3 wickets.
