This match was much changed: taking place at Pembroke College ground rather than Marston, 45 overs a side rather than declaration and against a University 2/3 XI rather than the Authentics. Long-time Cryptics reckoned that this was by far the most challenging ground they had ever had to reach, some having to walk for 20 minutes carrying their kit through some woods and over a railway bridge.
Mike Nolan assembled a strong side which batted first posting what looked to be an underwhelming total of 129 and failing to use the last 5 overs. OUCC got off to a good start but were eventually pegged by accurate bowling and excellent field-placing and aggressive fielding. The target came down to 19 off the last two overs with 3 wickets in hand. It proved too much. Skipper Mike Nolan took responsibility and bowled the last over himself securing a run out and a stumping and limiting the runs scored to ensure a 6 run win.
