Dear Cryptic / Friend of the Club,

I hope you have all had a good summer, both on and off the field. Following a successful and enjoyable pre-season tour the club had to Spain earlier this year, I would like to draw your attention to the pre-season tour that I am organising next year to Malta. The club has been to Malta a few times before but not for almost 10 years. The cricket field has recently been relayed, and Cryptics member, Gordon Hewitt, helps run the club. Malta is a lovely island to visit. There are many different restaurants and bars for après cricket, as well as the beautiful coastline and beaches to explore...and nightlife in nearby St Julian's, for those with stamina!

I am looking for a group of players, umpires, spectators etc., as in previous years, not only for the cricket but to also enjoy some sun and good food along the way. The details are below and I have included some questions and answers, hopefully to whet your appetite for the tour!

Pre-season tour to Malta 2018

Thursday 5th April - Monday 9th April (weekend after Easter)

3 Matches: Friday v Romiley CC (40 overs)

Saturday v Marsa CC (40 overs)

What accommodation are we staying in?

I have provisionally booked 4 nights’ accommodation at the Plaza Regency Hotel which is a 3* hotel in the Sliema/St Julian's area, on a twin basis to keep costs down. (A sole occupancy will of course be available should you wish but with a surcharge). The hotel will be on a B&B basis so people can pick and choose where they eat in the evenings. The hotel comes highly recommended from the cricket club and is where a lot of touring teams stay and get looked after well. I'm particularly looking forward to the rooftop pool! Is the tour for members only?

Not at all! It is hoped that any potential member would be encouraged to come along and play for us as they would do during the season.

How much will the tour cost and what's included?

For, 4 nights’ accommodation at the Plaza Regency Hotel;

Transport to and from the airport (subject to arriving at a similar time to the main group);

Cricket match transport (returns);

Match day fees; and,

Lunches on all match days for the entire tour party...

£195 per person

I certainly think that represents excellent value for money and just means all you need to pay for on top are flights and spending money.

You've sold it to me, shall I book my flights?

Yes! Flights to and from Malta, out on the Thursday 5th April and back on Monday 9th April (or whenever suits). No problem if you can only make a couple of days either. The sooner you book them the cheaper they will be. It would help if we all arrive at a similar time in order to use the same transfer but this may not be possible based on flight schedules. In the past, people have made an extended holiday out of the tour so just let me know if you are flying out sooner or later than the planned dates and if you would like to stay at the hotel for longer. I realise flights are pricier compared to Spain this year but such is the nature of the longer flight. Costs will be low once we are there.
